Goal

 

The primary goal of the Center for Academic Technology at Chatham University is to empower faculty and students in their effective use of technology to enhance teaching, increase student engagement, and advance scholarship.

 

Academic Technology aims to support and assist faculty with:

 

  • redesigning courses and teaching methods through the use of technology.
  • exploring uses of new and existing technologies to enhance teaching and learning.
  • evaluating technology and its impact on teaching and learning.
  • developing pedagogically sound classroom practices that increase student engagement and interaction through the use of technology.
  • improving classroom management techniques for teaching with technology.
  • planning, implementing and assessing technology-enhanced projects for teaching and scholarship.
  

 

Faculty Development Initiatives:

 

I. Faculty Technology Fellows Program: The mission of the program is to increase the number of faculty using technologies in their teaching and scholarship. The program seeks to select a diverse group of participants across all disciplines, levels of teaching experiences, and technology expertise.

II. The Technology Certificate Program: This is a series of classes designed to provide faculty members with a comprehensive set of skills, strategies, and the confidence for using technology in the classroom. Both full-time and part-time faculty are eligible for this program. The goal for the Technology Certificate Program is to offer a broad set of skills for faculty, as well as a system for the University to recognize faculty committed to improving their skills in this realm. Certificate Requirements: Successful completion of 4 workshops within one academic year.
